7 STEPS THAT NEVER FAIL TO GROWING YOUR BUSINESS.. 7 STEPS THAT NEVER FAIL TO GROWING YOUR BUSINESS... ESPECIALLY IN A SLOWING ECONOMY

It's been a strange old time for business owners, and right now many are wondering if things are going to get tougher with interest rate rises and economic doom and gloom.

Now is a great time to become a master of marketing and realise that your no 1 job as the business owner is sales and marketing! This means bringing in fresh new leads, converting those into sales, and to keep on doing a marvellous job with your existing clients who might be looking around at cheaper options if they are feeling the pinch. More than ever, you need to show your audience why they should value your expertise and providing a champion service/product is so important.

So here are some timely tips to give you that marketing injection you might be needing...

🎯 1. Choose an industry/s that you already have a lot of SUCCESS with – and really drill down the core reasons why you are the obvious choice in that industry. (It really helps if you can provide a few case stories proving this too.) The reason why you should niche down is because you don't stand out being a generalist that "can help everybody". You're much better off concentrating on the areas that you know you're a champion in and be the go-to person in that industry - especially if they have a real need for what you provide right now!

😍 2. BUILD AN EMAIL LIST of the people who have showed interest in what your company does. (Thas to be permission-based marketing – do not spam.) You'd be surprised to know that most people do not have an up to date email list. Go back through your notes and look at all your sales enquiries, quotes, conversations, people you've met and chatted about business with, and referrals that you've received over the past couple of years and add them in.

❤ 3. Bite the bullet and create a really great LEAD MAGNET for your website that you can talk about in your socials and newsletters, and make sure that it's really relevant to the specialist industries that you are going after.

This weekend was all about… porridge! It’s a r This weekend was all about… porridge! It’s a refeed couple of days for me in my training and I totally embraced it!!
Does anybody else fantasize about the best bowl of porridge in winter?!?!
Believe me, when you’re shredding and your coach says let’s up your calories for two days… it’s like 10 christmases at once!

LESS THAN 10 WEEKS TO GO UNTIL MY BODY SCULPTING C LESS THAN 10 WEEKS TO GO UNTIL MY BODY SCULPTING COMP!
Oh this is getting so real! Over the past 7 weeks since I’ve been dropping calories and dropping weight, but maintaining training… and the muscle soreness, the hunger every time we reduce calories, feeling more emotional than usual and the reality that I still have a long way to go is really setting in!

This is the sport of body sculpting and I though I’d share some of this with you (and also as a record for me). And if you love data and comparing results, mixed with a bit of psychology, this little recap is fascinating stuff because it’s so revealing about your relationship with food, your mindset, and your ability to get right out of your comfort zone.

Weight:
At the height of my training just 7 weeks ago I was eating 2330 calories of measured healthy food, and got my weight up to 62.5kg while training daily. This pleased my trainer a lot because you can’t build muscle from thin air, so you need to be gaining weight. It did play havoc with my mind though. I was putting so much food into my small body… and it goes against everything we want as a woman, and I was freaking out on the inside watching that number on the scale increasing. It messed with my head as my ‘magic weight number’ had always been 60. Never mind that I looked super healthy and toned, and was fitting in all of my clothes better than ever and had tonnes of energy! I was very attached to that number and secretly didn’t want it to rise, even it was muscle!

So now I’m 7 weeks into my shred, I’m eating 1750 calories a day (funny as that was my original base point when I started training because my metabolism was so much slower) and I’ve lost 5 kg quite easily and now my weight has stabilised. It’s time for more drastic action apparently because body sculpting requires you to get your body very lean for competition!

So I took myself off for a body composite scan over the weekend. I’m pretty much at my happy place with my body fat/muscle ratio and I wanted a record of it so I can get back to this place AFTER my competition.

WOULD YOUR SERVICE-BASED BUSINESS BENEFIT FROM HAV WOULD YOUR SERVICE-BASED BUSINESS BENEFIT FROM HAVING AN ONLINE COURSE OR MEMBERSHIP?

😍 Do you have a great service or consulting business that works 1:1 and you want to help more people?
🎯 Do you want to increase your revenue without having to work much harder?
😎 Do you want to expand your personal brand and be known as an expert in your industry?

Then maybe YOU should be offering an online course or membership! We all know writing a book or having your own podcast does wonders for your personal brand, and nothing screams expert more than having your own online course too!

There are so many benefits to doing this… offering an online course or a membership in what you are an expert at already, is a GREAT way to bring passive income into your business, get in front of more people and grow your brand, and help more people!
When you do it right, it’s only a win/win!

I’m busy updating my own online course and turning it into a membership (to be released next month), and I’m pretty sure it’s the universe talking to me, because in the past few days I‘ve worked with 2 more businesses in helping them build out the structure of their own online course, put together the marketing strategy, the content plan and plan out building the infrastructure for them.

I wish it was easy as “build it and they will come” but unless you have a rock solid personal brand already, this won’t be the case. BUT, with a strategy put in place and an action plan, plus some coaching if you need it, it can happen beautifully for you. And it will definitely build your bricks and mortar service up as well for the people who just want to work directly with you.

Want to chat? The online education industry is HUGE and growing each day. Plenty of great courses are developed and never really see the light of day because the owner didn’t know how to market them, and they lost confidence and gave up far too soon. There are so many ways I can help you avoid these common pitfalls. All you have to do is reach out and we can brainstorm a few ideas together to see if it’s a good idea for your business/service!

NETWORKING TO FIND A FEW VALUABLE CONNECTIONS vs M NETWORKING TO FIND A FEW VALUABLE CONNECTIONS
vs MEETING EVERYONE IN THE ROOM!
Happy Friday gorgeous people! Today I went to my first formal networking event all year, it's been a while, and it turns out I didn't have up-to-date business cards! (oops! does anybody even use business cards these days?!)

That aside, it was a great couple of hours.
Did I meet lots of people? Nope.
But I did meet a handful of people who are legitimately very good contacts for myself personally and for my clients. Why? Because we share the same values of giving and caring for our clients, and we share the same target audience, and that speaks volumes.

I typically work with very hard working, time poor, entrepreneurial business owners who are nailing it in their industry, but not so much in other areas of their life such as their relationships, their marketing, their finances, or running their business as efficiently as they could.

So when I meet another business owner like myself who work with the exact same kind of client, it's a perfect match to find a way we can get in front of each other's audiences, demonstrate our value, and perhaps pick up some new clients and work with the kind of people that we do the best work for. It's a win/win for everybody involved.

That's how you should view networking. You don't want to be 'selling' at the person standing in front of you. You want to see if your values are aligned with them, if they're a connector too, if you are already talking to the same people in your marketing, and then if you know you can provide massive value to each other's audiences, then it means you can do stuff together.

Things like:
😍 guest appear on a podcast
👍 guest write in their newsletter
✍️ run a masterclass or webinar for their clients
🎬 run a workshop together
🎤 speak at a live event
🎯 create a package or special offer especially for them
🙂 or just be referred to each other and have a friendly discovery call

Networking is a great marketing strategy if you are doing it with people similar to yourself, who are already connected to your kind of audience, and have a reciprocal nature.
Have fun!

12.5 weeks until my body sculpting competition… 12.5 weeks until my body sculpting competition… and it’s really dawning on me how much I have to do!!!

I have just come back from the best 10 day conference/holiday in the Outback BUT… there were no gyms. Anywhere. So that’s 10 days of breaking from my training schedule and slipping now and again from my eating plan! It totally messed with my head at first and it’s not ideal this close to comp day. But you can’t change what is reality and you can only make the best of the situation and I made sure I still enjoyed my holiday!

Luckily I didn’t gain any weight at all or lose much muscle mass. And although I did pick up a nasty chest infection from a serious asthma flare up due to the fine red dust (thanks Covid-affected lungs) I’m back on board, pumped, and ready for the next calorie deficit and the next level of shredding.

I also finalized my posing routine today with my coach @emma_bowman_coach - these competitions are won and lost based on stage performance. So the importance of training each day both in weights and posing is crucial.

This sport is all about consistency and discipline, and lucky I have both of those traits in bucket loads!! I can draw so many comparisons between this experience and running a business. The planning, the hiccups (like breaking my wrist last year and getting locked out of competing due to lockdowns!!) the daily small gains from persistence, the dedication and discipline when nobody is looking, the amazing help from professional coaches, and just turning up every day consistently so you can give it your best on game day.

And the biggest thing is realizing you never actually ‘make it’, it’s just continual growth, steady improvement by trial and error, and the deep satisfaction of months and months of preparation for a few short moments of being on show!!
Just like being a business owner really. It all looks glamorous from the outside, yet it’s really just sheer grit, determination and commitment behind the scenes!

Hello!!!! I’m back from the sunny NT and while m Hello!!!!
I’m back from the sunny NT and while my home town of Sydney has not turned on the weather charm at all, it is always nice to be home…
Fresh from a gorgeous holiday, inspired from an amazing member conference away with Tina Tower - Her Empire Builder and ready to make an impact with my own message and my own purpose to help business owners create a brand that helps them stand out and be far happier, healthier and fulfilled from what they are bringing to the world because more people know about them.

That’s all marketing needs to be. Showing up and delivering a heart-felt message congruent with your business and brand. And showing people that your stuff really does matter when it all lines up with your purpose. A happy business owner impacting the world means happy team members delivering amazing work and products, and a happy customer base who will sing your praises from the rooftop. That is definitely the future successful business model – one that has an amazing presence online, has created their own loyal community, turns a profit and still has a social conscience.

So what does that mean for me after taking some time off?
It means I’m going to show up more. Not just here on my pages where I share my views and play it safe with a loyal and friendly audience. That’s easy.

It means launching my podcast again and guesting on others. My video channel. Get regular with reels. Going live a lot more. Running more webinars. Running live events including workshops and speaking regularly on other people’s stages. Sending out weekly emails with really helpful content. Bringing together other great leaders and running online and live events to much bigger audiences. Partnering with larger companies and organisations and getting in front of their members. Write that bloody book! Relaunch my online course as a membership. Make more videos and share regularly. Get funding for a documentary that I want to make in the future. Partner with a small charity that I’m passionate about and help them get more exposure. Run a mentoring program for people that are less fortunate and share my knowledge freely. Give, give, and keep giving.

Anybody else’s dog looking like this today? It’s day 5 of no walks and she’s just realized it’s no longer raining… and she’s ready and poised just waiting for that “w”’word! She’s not letting me out of her sight!!

On a more important note… Sending lots of love to everyone who has been really seriously impacted by the floods, I realise my dog not being walked daily is pretty minor stuff. To all my Wonnie friends, if we can help in any way please let us know.

Thank you for coming out and supporting Evolution Rock and your club. Please stay safe and pray to the rain gods that it eases right back.

Here’s some photos and little videos. I was doing it tough last night! I loved our holiday in the NT but the red bull dust doesn’t agree with my lungs and I was fighting a pretty aggressive chest infection most of the week. Yay to some serious asthma medication, we have to take our health really seriously.

There is so much more to 'us' than what we 'do' in There is so much more to 'us' than what we 'do' in our businesses, and we should talk about this too in our marketing - because people really do care about who you truly are. And sometimes it's all you have to set you apart from your competitors. So true to my word, I love sharing my body building journey, and equally love talking about my new leisure past time as a singer in Evolution Rock - a Sydney rock covers band that I've been gigging with for 6 months now.

It says so much more about me as a business owner than any amount of words. Creative, brave, fun loving, passionate, a team player... these are all traits I could tell you I have, but I'd rather show you by example.

So in case you don't know the back story, I had a hiatus from singing in a band for nearly 30 years, (raising kids, supporting my family solo and establishing my business in the initial years kind of had to take priority!) so it was pretty wonderful when I decided at 50 that I wanted to get back into it. My kids were all grown up, my business is ticking along nicely, and I have more time now than I've ever had before to follow my passions again.

So I put it out there to the universe, set the intention, and an opportunity to try out with a really talented local band literally feel into my lap within weeks! It's incredible what happens when you believe that it's possible, and you take the steps to make it happen.

So we play around every couple of weeks at least, and last night we gigged at a local club in the south of Sydney called Club on East and I knew it was going to be a great night when the dance floor filled up in the first couple of songs of the first set!

It was one of the best public gigs we've done since lockdown ended, and this is what fills my cup on a personal level. As business owners, we all need to remember to live our lives passionately, and do what lights us up. It makes us better humans, to be fulfilled in every aspect of your life, and I wanted to share a few photos of last night because you can see just how happy I am! And I bring that joy with me to my work.

15 WEEKS UNTIL MY BODY SCULPTING COMPETITION! So I 15 WEEKS UNTIL MY BODY SCULPTING COMPETITION!
So I’m 2.5kg down in 2 weeks and the muscles are starting to appear!!

One of the hardest parts (for me) about body building is the bulking stage where you intentionally gain extra weight so you build the most muscle. It’s a complete mind-funk!! As women we spend our whole lives wanting that scale weight to come down, but instead we watch it climb. I put on 5kg during the build time and I STRUGGLED with that as I was eating like a horse and doing everything the opposite of how women are taught to think and feel about food! - which is unhealthy in itself!!

So watching the scale number come down down these past couple of weeks is rewarding and seeing the muscles peeking through is even greater!! The tricky thing for me is to still keep building muscle while I reduce fat. (Last time I shredded I lost a lot of muscle which is heartbreaking - so hoping that doesn’t happen this time!)

It’s so important that I do everything right. Stick to my nutrient-carb-protein rich diet, (I’m still eating 2,000 calories daily), zero alcohol, no cheating with bad food, lots of sleep, and consistent training.

I’m focusing on how to pose and stand out on stage from here on in. This is where comps are won and lost. I had no idea that there is so much more to this sport than just lifting weights for a few months and trotting out on stage in a bikini! It’s been a very up and down 18 month adventure so far and I see now it’s never over if you want to keep being better.

It’s an emotional roller coaster testing your relationship with food (food is fuel, not comfort!!). A true test of your discipline with showing up each day for the training when there is nobody holding you accountable except yourself, and a test of your self-worth when every man and their dog has an opinion about what you’re doing and is happy to share it with you!!!

I do this 100% for me. I set the challenge 18 months ago, had tonnes of setbacks but I’m still here. Let’s see what happens!!

THE DANGER OF FITTING IN When we were in school, m THE DANGER OF FITTING IN
When we were in school, most teenagers just wanted to fit in. I know I did! It was so important to be in the ‘in crowd’ and I was lucky enough to live around the corner from a really popular girl, and piggyback off her popularity to be accepted by the cool group. Except, I wasn’t really being 100% me. I actually felt far more aligned with the quirky, creative kids. So I did the dance of trying to fit in with everyone, but deep down I had no clue who I really was. And I’ve done it most of my life to be honest. In friendships, relationships, business acquaintances… be the chameleon, adapt to the situation, hang with the cool kids, and be accepted by default.

That’s no way to live your life. But most of us are doing it.

I see all the time business owners and entrepreneurs copying what everyone else is doing in their personal branding and marketing… they are far more concerned about fitting in then actually standing out and being original! And people can feel it when you’re not being true to yourself, and therefore there’s nothing to connect with. And that’s largely why so many of your marketing messages aren’t sticking, because people just aren’t feeling you because you’re too worried about fitting in.

Since I’ve started tuning into being more of me and less of what is expected, I can’t tell you how many times I hear people say “you’re so intense”, or “you’re a bit full on”. I’m not sure if it’s kind of a compliment or kind of not. The point is, it’s not really my business what anybody thinks of me. It’s just their opinion based on their own beliefs about how people should be, and fitting in to their groove. Personally, I love “full on” people. My favourite people are extroverted, larger than life, boisterous, passionate, and full of life. They also have lots of conviction about what they’re doing and know where they stand on issues, and this comes through in their businesses and marketing. So if that’s intense for some people, that’s okay, not everybody has to like you.

Hear that again. Not everybody has to like you.
