SELF LOVE AND BEING WONDER WOMAN
I speak a lot about self love and maybe people wonder why a marketing/branding chick has so much commitment to the topic… well it’s because so many of us don’t treat ourselves anywhere near as nicely as we do our friends and loved ones!

But back to being Wonder Woman… So this past month has been a bit rough for me. Mid December I got the flu pretty bad, and then that morphed into Covid in the new year and mix that with a little dose of heart break and it hasn’t been an awesome month! But if there’s one thing I pride myself on is my resilience and my coping skills, and of course I’ll get through anything that is thrown at me. But this nasty cough I’ve had for 4 weeks is doing my head in and I finally took myself off to the doctor today to see if they can do anything with it.

And I’m so glad I did. I always hesitate seeing the dr. I don’t even have a dr to be honest, hat’s how rarely I go. I much rather suffer on and just let my body fix itself. Well some things don’t fix themselves and it was a really timely reminder that we need to be kinder to ourselves and accept that we aren’t always Wonder Woman (or Super Man) and sometimes a bit of medical help is great! I have been neglecting my asthma treatment for years (which in turn means I’m neglecting me). I see it as a weakness and I hate admitting that when I feel I can overcome anything, so instead of sorting it out a month ago if I’d gone then, I’m now on some pretty heavy doses of steroids to build my lungs back up and avoid catching pneumonia!

Moral to the story, love yourself – even the weaknesses. Listen to your body. It gives you wonderful signals when you aren’t doing well and those signals will get louder and louder if you don’t listen.

I also consulted the wonderful Louise Hay who wrote “You Can Heal Your Life” and she proposes that having Asthma means: Unresolved guilt. smother love, inability to breathe for ones’ self, feeling stifled, suppressed crying.

So I will also be using the affirmation: “It is safe for me to take charge of my own life. I choose to be free” to move through this phase as well.

A late night tea party with myself as I put together my first official presentation on Connection Marketing for 2022 this Saturday. Pretty exciting to be presenting LIVE to a real audience after almost 2 years sitting in front of a laptop and video camera!

A live audience in a workshop scenario is so much more rewarding for everybody. Even if we are all wearing masks and rubbing elbows, who cares… we are attempting ‘normal’ life and that has to be a great thing!

If you ever wonder how to reach my heart… it’s definitely through beautiful home brewed loose leaf herbal tea. Creative bliss happening right here right now!!

I’m a happy woman. Creating awesome content for a live audience. Singing on Friday night, speaking Saturday morning, having dinner with my best girlfriends that evening… well that’s the plan anyway! Life is good x

Spending some time alone at home, (rather than being my usual busy), and these are my thoughts for today that I thought I’d share, for what they’re worth!!

❤️ Fall in love with your life.
🙏 Spend some time on your own. Get comfortable with your silence and fill the space with really kind self talk.
💕 Reach out to friends when you need to chat and ask them how they are going. Talk less about yourself and more about then. Tell them that you love them.
🎤 Sing.
💃 Dance.
🌳 Hang out in nature.
🐶 Talk to your dog.
🌞 Sit in the sun.
😴 Close your eyes and imagine your ‘perfect’ life. If you do this regularly you will start to attract it to you because you believe it to be so.
💗 Love the people around you.
😇 Be grateful for what is good in your life.
📓 If you are unhappy about certain traits you have, journal about it, be honest with yourself, look at where you might be repeating old unconscious patterns.
📚 Read books that help you understand yourself.
🍎 Stay conscious to your life - which is code for: don’t numb by over drinking, over eating, watch too much tv and avoid seeing what is really happening in your life.
📞 Avoid gossiping and negative conversations.
🎯 Set small goals that you can achieve so you can feel success straight away.
❤️ Be kind. Everyone is trying their best. Judge less and be curious more.
😊 Move quietly away from people that don’t enhance your life experience.
Acknowledge hurt and then forgive them.
😢 Don’t hold onto the pain.
💤 Sleep.
⏰ Take time out from things that are not good for you. You can change things right now when you decide to. You don’t have to wait for the perfect time because it’s never going to come!
😃 Smile.
😹 Laugh.
💗 Love.

Do what makes your heart sing… literally! Tuesday night is band practice, and it’s become one of my favourite nights of the week. At 50 I’m finally remembering what it’s like to do stuff purely for me and to fill my creative needs. And it feels great!!

Life is full of so many stages. For me, I came to Sydney at 17 full of adventure and promise. I found a band, I travelled, put myself through uni, bought a house in my late 20’s, started a business and started my family.

30-50 I raised my family - a lot of it as the sole income earner. I went through a divorce, remarried, travelled a lot around Australia with Steve’s work, and spent more time than I care to remember at camping expos supporting him! I also spent a huge amount of time at soccer ovals and athletics tracks with my boys! It was my life, and I loved it. But it wasn’t about me.

When I was 45 Steve died. Needless to say I didn’t have any time for personal hobbies. It was all I could do to find time to go for a run - and it was usually when I was waiting to pick up a son from their training. I very much put myself way down the line as a priority.

I regret nothing. It was awesome to give so much of myself to my family and see them grow into wonderful, confident adults. But now I’m relearning how to not put myself behind everyone else’s needs. It’s definitely a new muscle to exercise. But so worth it!!

It’s not selfish to put yourself first and find something that you love. I’ve spent most of my life boosting other people up, so it’s wonderful to return to me and do it for myself now. I have a tendency to lose myself in my relationships with others. I think many can relate. But I’m turning that around. It’s called self love and having balance in your life, and it feels good.

Happy new year everyone! It’s been such a big en

Happy new year everyone! It’s been such a big end to the year that I’m even posting this message late!!
🎯 There was lots of marketing,
branding and events work for clients.
🧘‍♀️ I completed an intense spiral healing course which I loved. Stay tuned for more on that!!
👩‍🎤 Then I starting singing in a band with live performances right before Xmas and minimal prep time - (which I absolutely love and the whole thing was so unexpected but absolutely perfect!)
😷 And in the middle of it all I caught the common flu and got really knocked around by it.
💔 And then the news that somebody very close to me is moving away from Sydney unexpectedly!

So it has been a real roller coaster ride of emotions, excitement and adapting to change.

But as always there is a lesson to learn and for me it’s to continue with my practice of self-love, self esteem, trust in myself and the universe, and to just let life flow as it should. Which is pretty hard for an ex control freak!!

Human beings love certainty, and we totally love getting in our own way! And when you try to control the outcome it never really works out as good as it could have if you just life unfold.

So my mission for 2022 is to stay on this path with clear intentions.
🙏 Stay open.
❤️ Have a big open heart focused on kindness and love.
✋ Share and help others to be the best they can.
⚖️ Try to not judge - but remain curious.
🗣 Speak the truth - my truth and my boundaries!
🏆 Try to always do and be my best.
🍎 Live a healthy life and be surrounded by people on a similar journey.
😃 Stay positive and willing for adventure.
🙌 Focus on more connection and far less attachment.
📚 Get on top of things that are my responsibility. Manifesting is great but so is regular bookwork and efficiency!
😁 Love life with both feet in… no more half-arsing anything.
💜 And to just let love and life flow.

What is meant for us will always find us, and if we remain true to ourselves and open hearted the path will feel far less bumpy! What is meant to be will be, if we let it flow.

There’s something really exciting about the star

There’s something really exciting about the start of a new year, especially when it’s been the kind of year we’ve had!

I love this video that my phone put together for me recently, pulling up random memories from 2021 and reminding me that although the year was nothing that we thought it would be, there’s always still so much to embrace and appreciate about the challenges thrown at us.

Turns out that even though we spent over four months in lockdown, there was still plenty of great stuff that happened! And life really is what you make it, by the people you give your time to and the difference you make in the world by who you serve.

I spent a lot of this year being very reflective, doing tonnes of personal growth, really getting to know who I am and what I want out of life (turning 50 will do that to you!). And I’d like to think that because of this inner work, 2022 will be the most intentional year that I have ever spent on this planet.

If I have learnt anything from the past few years, it’s that you can make all the plans in the world but it can all go to sh!t through no doing of your own. So instead of planning out my next year within an inch of my life, I’ve come up with a basic idea of what I want to achieve, set some pretty firm goals, and just living life as openly and as whole heartedly as possible, so I remain open to embracing all the beautiful things the universe sees for me.

As business owners, leaders and entrepreneurs we tend to want to control all things, when really life is completely out of our control! We can only manage it as best we can. Learning to let it flow is the true gift.

So happy new year to you and your loved ones. I truly hope you are safe, happy and healthy, and with the people that you love the most. Can’t wait to see what new adventures 2022 brings us!

Last gig of 2021. What a crazy old year it’s been. Didn’t see my beautiful state shutting down for so long and all the lessons learned about myself during that period, and certainly didn’t see myself joining a band and start gigging straight away once it opened up.
Life is definitely what you make it. You can plan all you want and control the fcuk out of it … or you can also just let it flow and unfold as it should.

So much fun last night, my first gig out with Evol

So much fun last night, my first gig out with Evolution Rock! Been a looooooooong time since I stood up with a band for a few sets and rocked it out. And it felt really goooood. Loved that it was a small little venue so I could get a feel for it again and iron out a few kinks. (And lots of lyrics to memorise!)

The highlight was having some beautiful friends rock up unexpectedly and 2 of my sons came for the whole gig. I felt truly loved and supported and I can’t tell you how good that feels!

It’s so freaking exciting to be back doing this! I made a promise to myself recently that I’m going to start truly living life with “both feet in” instead of just dipping a toe in the water to see if it works out. Next gig is Boxing Day afternoon at Kurnell Rec Club! Can’t wait to see where this all goes…

I can’t tell you how good it feels doing what yo

I can’t tell you how good it feels doing what you love! I moved to Sydney when I was 17 with one clear goal… to sing in a rock band! And I achieved that goal within a few months knowing absolutely nobody and had a ball.

We gigged around Sydney at some very dodgy and alao amazing venues, and even did a few short trips up and down the east coast. But it got cut short for a few reasons, and then life got very busy raising my boys and working my business hard as the sole breadwinner. I did forget about me for a long while, and it’s taken 30 years to get back properly in front of a mic and sing in front of a band, live!

So this Saturday night, I’ll be at Bundeena Bowling Club between 7-11 doing my thing for 6 or 7 songs with Evolution Rock. And then Boxing Day we’ll be at Kurnell and I’ll be doing a few more songs as we learn them!!
(Nothing like throwing yourself in the deepend - I only tried out with them a week ago!)

I love singing, and for a very long time I literally lost my voice. But it’s back now and I couldn’t be happier doing my thing and focusing on what makes me happy. Would love to see some of you at future gigs, there’ll be plenty coming up!

Never stop dreaming or doing what you want to in life. Even if it’s a dream you parked for a few decades!

My needs are pretty simple… My boys, my extended family and the people I love. Get in the way of that and we have a problem!!
Tonight we could finally come together and celebrate Jeremy’s 22nd birthday.

Disregard the restaurant messed up what time our booking was, forget that they ran out of avocados and had to wait for their boss with more, and turn a blind eye for the 2 hour wait to be fed!!

The Hospitality industry is under so much pressure now I’m not going to bag them out. Because the company was exceptional we barely noticed the time delay, and the food delicious. I’m just so grateful we can do this again.

SHOW BEHIND THE SCENES OF YOUR BUSINESS

Everybody wants to know what is REALLY going on in your business. We often show only the results of our labour, but how engaging is it to take people on the journey from beginning to end and let them in behind the velvet rope!

Recently we did a big full day videoshoot for my lovely clients Warren Saunders Insurance Brokers. They are celebrating their 60th birthday celebrations and wanted to create a commemorative video to play at their big dinner coming up in the new year. So it just makes sense to show some stills from the day in my feed rather than just show the finished product when it’s done. I also took the time to create a really short 60 second video on the day in between shoots explaining what we were doing, where we were etc, and will share that in my stories.

As a business owner, you have to get used to the fact that people want to see what you do behind the glossy smiles and professional images. They want all of it, and the most engaging content is the stuff you share that feels the most real.

People love to see you from every angle. The fun side, the professional side, the good times and even the ordinary. It’s all an opportunity for interesting and authentic content. So when I do a video shoot I love to share how many people it takes to make a video (in this case me as art director/producer, Gav from @venture__films shooting and editing, and Kara from Warren Saunders overseeing the whole event), to the gear we use to where we shoot… it’s all interesting and relevant, and should be shared.

(And even better if you have some good blooper reels or funny moments you can share!)

CREATE A FUN/SUCCESS CHALLENGE FOR YOUR AUDIENCE

Who doesn’t love a good challenge!!! And if your target audience are other business owners, then you are really in luck because nothing sets the entrepreneurial heart on fire more than healthy competition!

January is an awesome time to market your business. But don’t bore your audience to death with predictable marketing. Why not run a challenge for them that will produce a desired outcome for something that your audience finds difficult to do on their own, so it’s a really positive and a shared experience. It creates community and pitches you as the leader of change and showcases your expertise!

I’ll give you an example. I really enjoy following Gabby Bernstein. She is a world-known speaker, an author, has countless online products from courses to physical items, and is a very inspiring chick. And this January she is running a Manifesting Challenge. Because her target audience are right into the woo woo world and fully open to the belief that they can change their world by attracting what they desire, and she is the gal to lead them to doing that with a 21 day challenge.

The way it works is that she markets it during December, people sign up, pay their $37 to do it (because let’s face it, if you don’t have some skin in the game you’ll never commit!), she delivers 21 days of video and email content, and then you are on her emailing list to be further marketed to, selling her larger products.

Win/Win for everybody!

So if one of your goals for your business in 2022 is to grow your database and delight your existing audience I HIGHLY recommend running your own version of a challenge in January, when people actually have the time to do it! I will be running one myself most likely around self confidence and developing a stronger self esteem around personal branding. So stay tuned for that if that is something you’d like to work on next year!

PLAN AN ONLINE TRAINING/WEBINAR FOR MID JANUARY

While your competitors are all taking a break and your potential customers are hanging out with more time on their hands… why don’t you run some online training/webinar in early-mid January? Make it a really compelling topic and people will have far less reasons why they can’t make it as they just aren’t as busy, and more likely focused on strategy and planning with a freed up calender.

And, thanks to covid and long lockdowns, most people have also learned that they can access a wealth of knowledge from all around the world on pretty much any topic. And what a way to start gathering fresh names for your database as well as reconnect with your audience who have been following you for a while and just need a good reason to keep engaging with you.

People are so intimidated by the notion of running a webinar, but really, it’s just like meeting up face to face with potential clients and sharing your knowledge with them in a positive way that showcases you as a true leader in your industry that actually cares.

Below are some ideas if you’re struggling to find an interesting topic. But the best hint I can give you is to think about who your top A clients are, and what keeps them awake at night, and build your presentation around that. Sometimes we think that a potential client wants to hear about what we want to tell them, but it’s worth thinking about it from their perspective, and giving them assistance in the area that will most help them and get good immediate results if they action your tips.
