These 3 are my reading goals for the next 4 weeks of lockdown, on top of my normal workload and getting ready to launch my online course in September.

Next year it’s my plan to write my own book about the power of connection - to ourselves, the people around us and how to create communities.

Day 2 after second Pfizer shot and happy to report

Day 2 after second Pfizer shot and happy to report no major reaction aside from feeling a bit tired at the end of the working day yesterday.

Today is all about loving the sun and getting our fitness on after taking a couple of days off when we had the shots.

So today was a warm up then legs and glutes first up in the home gym. Followed by a cruisey 4km walk with intermittent sprints up hills. Followed by 50 push ups, 60 tricep dips, 50 sit-ups and a bit of stretching in the park. I even worked up a bit of a sweat - hence the photo! How nice is it to be back in summer gear!!

I’m so grateful that even in lockdown we can get outdoors for a bit!

Re the vaccine - if you are worried about the side effects of getting the vaccine start prepping your body now. Lay right back on the alcohol, caffeine and junk food. Eat lots of salads and veggies. Start exercising and walking. Take probiotics to prepare your gut and supplements to build up your immune system. I drink tonnes of herbal tea and just plain old water every day. I swear that makes all the difference.

And talk kindly to your body. It’s listening! If you say you’re going to have bad side effects… you probably will! I stayed very positive around the whole thing and happy to say aside from being a bit fatigued, the side effects are almost un-noticeable.

How are you feeling?
Once a month I catch up with my power group and one of the discussions was around finding the motivation when working from home. (Something hitting very hard with Sydney business owners right now in lockdown!)

What was really common was the guilt around not being as productive as usual. And the need to be busy all the time to make us FEEL valuable and that we doing something useful. The feeling was that if we weren’t busy, we were failing ourselves.

But what if we are actually meant to work in fast bursts and have more regular breaks and down time?

What if we can split our day up into productive work times?! I know I work really well first thing in the morning and also I’m productive in the evening! What I do love is spending time in the middle of the day (especially in winter) out walking and exercising outdoors. So why not schedule my work around my productivity time rather than a set 9-5 time clock that suits a non-digital era.

When you find yourself saying “I have to do this” or “I should be doing this”… pause and look at where it’s coming from. And then question if you NEED to be so busy. Or is it just a habit and can you get it outsourced or reassigned to another team member?

I think with everything happening in our world right now… if your body is telling you to take it easier… take it easier. If you want to surge ahead… Do that! Just do what feels good right now, and if stepping back a bit and working on your personal health, growth, self love or whatever else you might be pulled towards… follow your instincts and just go with it. Guilt free.

Second shot of Pfizer - I’m now officially vaccinated. I’m not going to lie, I never thought I’d be lining up so readily for this vaccine. But when the city you love and so many business friends, staff, clients and suppliers are in absolute disarray and disruption, and so much financial hardship because of the lockdowns… you just naturally want to do your bit!

Come on Sydney, 239 new cases today?!We ALL have to do our bit. You may not agree with the vacccines, that is totally your business and I’m not interested in changing anybody’s mind. BUT I do ask that we all pull together, be respectful to differing opinions and do what we can.
Wear your mask - even when outdoors. Follow the rules. Stay home. Don’t visit your friends/family if they don’t live with you. Ask others to follow the rules if you know people aren’t abiding. Let’s get our beautiful city back up and running as peacefully as we can. It’s not about blame, it’s about being on the same team.

Much love and respect to everybody, especially if you are struggling in any way.

“If something is meant for you now… it will happen. If it doesn’t, let it go with grace and a smile. Because something better is headed your way.”

Well, that’s my motto anyway!! Today my body sculpting coach and I made the call that realistically… I’m not going to get over to Adelaide in September to compete in my first body sculpting comp. Sydney isn’t opening up any time soon and I can’t imagine that SA will open its’ borders to us for quite some time! So, with my comp only 8 weeks ago, we had to make the call. This comp has been a goal of mine since last December, to get on a body sculpting stage celebrating my 50th birthday year, and I have been training, dieting, and visualising this for the past 8 months.

So… what an opportunity to exercise a few of my own positivity tips from my post yesterday!
Am I disappointed? Hell yes.
Is this something I caused or can change? No.
So… my super power has always been to rationalise things fast, and there’s no point getting upset about something I cannot change. I acknowledge my disappointment, feel the emotion, and then let it go.

Me missing my competition is nowhere near as serious as the plight of so many business owners and workers who are out of work right this minute with no near end in sight. And I’m so deeply grateful that my business gets to keep operating during this time. There isn’t a person in this country that hasn’t been majorly disappointed about something from these lockdowns, and rather than moan about what we are missing out on, it’s an opportunity to keep a positive perspective about this and look for the silver lining.

And that is, my competition isn’t cancelled forever, it’s just postponed. Now I can change my focus on losing weight for this competition (and losing hard to gain muscle) and now focus on growing my muscles and being far more comp-ready next year now that I have been clearer on my goals.

Getting myself stronger, having a better stage presence, and more developed muscle with another 10 solid months of training for the next season is my new goal.
And that is the opportunity.

A BIT OF POSITIVITY…! I often get private messag

A BIT OF POSITIVITY…!
I often get private messages from friends and colleagues with really nice questions about where do I draw inspiration from to maintain a positive attitude… And I figured it’s been such an intense time online lately with debates about vaccinations/conspiracy theories and now the lockdown protests… that I thought that instead of fuelling the fire with my opinions, I’d rather shine a bit of positivity and share some great ideas on how I maintain a positive mindset and get through this lockdown period with a bit of grace and lack of judgement on others.

Tip 1 – always remember it’s not about you! What people say/do/think/care about doesn’t have much to do with you, it’s not a personal attack on you so you don’t need to respond! If their opinion is different to yours, try and come from a place of love and kindness rather than anger and taking it all too personally.

Tip 2 – there is always something to be grateful for. Yes, we’re in lockdown. Yes, it feels like we have lost our freedom. BUT… we also live in one of the free-est countries on the planet where we aren’t thrown in gaol for having a differing opinion to the state. We have an amazing social security that looks after us. Just living in Australia makes us ‘wealthy’ compared to most of the other people on the planet who go hungry most days. We need to remember this before we lose our shit about not being able to do what we want to do when we want to do it.
Make a mental list in your head every morning when you wake and before you go to bed, of all the things you have to be grateful for. This alone can completely change your mindset for the entire day. And smile when you’re doing it. Really feel into your gratitude.

Tip 3 – stay fit and healthy. Consider what you put in your mouth and what it does to your mental state. I know that if I drink alcohol, it drains me and I’ll be flat and negative the next day until my body replenishes itself. Easy solution for me, don’t drink if I want to stay positive!

PULL-UP LOCKDOWN CHALLENGE! At the beginning of l

PULL-UP LOCKDOWN CHALLENGE!

At the beginning of lockdown I was pretty excited to see I could do a pull-up!! It wasn’t pretty, but I could do it. And now a few weeks into lockdown I’m managing 3 pull-ups, so not a bad improvement although I’m sure my technique is pretty questionable and the little jump I do at the start wouldn’t satisfy most purists!! Ha ha, I get it – full disclaimer, this is NOT a how-to video on the perfect pull-ups!!

BUT, I’m working on being able to pull out 5 really nice pull-ups (minus the little jump at the start and making sure I do them from full extended arms) by the end of the lockdown and thought I’d throw out a bit of a pull-up challenge to all my friends and family with the competitive spirit!! I’d love to see what you can do and especially see if you make any improvements over the coming weeks. (Feel free to post your videos in this thread, or tag me in your own posts!) I know working out in lockdown can be really challenging for some but you don’t need to have all the fancy equipment, you just need to work with what you have.

What holds us back from sharing our true stories a

What holds us back from sharing our true stories and not the glossy exterior we think people want to see? The things that light us up and fills our hearts! Photos of us without makeup on, not perfectly curated, filter-free not looking our best self but in a moment that is our truth? In a nutshell, I think it makes us feel quite vulnerable and exposed. Very few people speak or show their absolute, vulnerable truth, but when they do, it’s magical. We hear that word ‘authentic’ bandied around a lot, but very few people practise it.

We have an insane need to be liked, it’s part of our DNA to be part of a tribe so we are safe… literally! But there are no more sabre tooth tigers roaming around in the wild in most parts of the world, (especially in our worlds!) so the new risk to our safety is largely the s#!t going on in our own heads! Our highly negative self-talk. We are definitely our harshest critics, and we are always looking for proof to validate a belief – so if it’s our belief that nobody is interested in what we have to say, then voila, we will find a million reasons to justify that!

A few years back I had no problems sharing a lot on FB. I loved it. I was all over my daily gratitude posts and opening right up and I know it helped many people! I had a husband that was very, very supportive of me and never criticised me in any way. He teased me they were too long, but he never bagged them out and he never made me feel less than. It was wonderful to be held in that supported state – but I never realised that it was actually my responsibility to hold that self-worth for myself. I have always looked for it externally and never realised.

So when he passed, and I found myself in a new relationship with somebody with a far more critical eye over me, I couldn’t draw on my own self-worth because it wasn’t there. And I sank into my shell as a form of protection because I was constantly being told that what I had to say wasn’t of value and that I shouldn’t be so open online, in relationships with others, even in my business.

Soooooo happy to get out in the sunshine today and

Soooooo happy to get out in the sunshine today and actually walk and exercise outside of the house for a change – even though trying to find areas away from people is a challenge but you can manage it. (Most of the time we wear a mask – even outdoors, which is interesting and adds to the workout!)

So I’m 9 weeks out from competition time and I have had some interest from friends around what I’m doing, so I will endeavour to share more the of the journey over the coming weeks. I started training with the gorgeous Emma Bowman after being inspired by a friend who shared a lot of her story on FB last year, so it’s only fair I do the same if it’s going to help somebody like it has me!

In late September and early October this year, pending border restrictions, I will be competing in Adelaide in my first body sculpting competition!!! I had originally set the personal goal for myself to run a marathon this year overseas to celebrate my 50th, but it became apparent pretty quickly that wasn’t going to happen (thanks 50 year old knees and thanks Covid worldwide lockdowns!). So I picked my next challenge… body sculpting. And I love it!!!!

Basically I’m on a program where I lift weights each day (nothing too challenging), I eat to a very regulated diet covering all food groups, and I do weekly checkins with my coach. I do everything from my garage gym with basic hand weights and a bar, and it has been awesome to watch my body shape really change and alter with each month that goes by.

Making video is one of my favourite ways to market your business and create real connection. - Even though public speaking and presenting is still one of the most daunting things for even the most successful business owner to do! You might know it's one of the best ways to create connection, but it can still paralyse many people to get in front of a camera.

So 30 hours after our first Pfizer jab i have to say that the side effects are barely there. A bit of a sore arm if you touch it, a bit tired last night, but all in all, feeling great! And more importantly, feeling like I’m doing something proactive to help all the struggling industries so badly affected by lockdowns.

(And I must say the very differing opinions on my decision to have the vaccine have been interesting!)

Let’s stand together guys. If you gotta do lockdown in Sydney (and we do) you might as well do it in style. @visionsinstyle! Stay in guys. Support the people doing it so hard with businesses on the line right now. Sometimes it’s not about you and your ‘personal rights’, it’s about the greater good for all. Whether the virus is real or not doesn’t matter right now, let’s just get back to some normality and sort out the rest in due course. Most of all, don’t judge people on their beliefs, we’re all doing the best we can. Be kind!

Well… I never thought I’d be lining up for a v

Well… I never thought I’d be lining up for a vaccine but this second wave of lockdowns in Sydney (and the rest of the country) has really shaken me up as I watch friends and clients suffering so much financially - and emotionally.

We’ve already lived our lives on hold for the last 18 months. How much longer do we honestly want this to keep happening?

I believe in your right to choose if you want to get vaccinated or not, but I also liken it to when I got my kids vaccinated many years ago. I didn’t like the risks, (what parent does?) but the only reason why we have the privilege of living in a country where so many diseases have been wiped out is because of herd vaccinating, and I see this as the same…

So, I’m a little nervously taking one for ‘Team Australia’ so to speak! We can’t keep going back into lockdowns, that’s for sure. And catching Covid doesn’t sound like a great option either. So, I’m getting vaccinated and hoping we can all get back to our normal, productive lives very soon.

Whatever story you tell yourself, that becomes you

You know the world is waiting to hear your story,

You know the world is waiting to hear your story, don’t you?

You matter. Your story matters. Your words inspire. Your actions make massive changes to people’s lives. Just because people might not be telling you every day, you might be shocked just how much you impact those around you.

So what does ‘sharing your story’ look like?
When my husband died of a massive heart attack 4 years ago, I openly shared that story and some of my clients made massive changes to their own health and forever changed the course of their personal and business lives.

When I released some songs I co-wrote last year, I shared it with everybody proudly (if not a bit vulnerabley!) and I know it inspired many people to follow their own creative dreams, stop caring what others think, and just go for it!

When I recently turned 50 I shared my fears and challenges around not being in the place I thought I would be in my life, and how hard it was to deal with… and I know it resonated strongly with so many.

The point is, we are not alone in this life. And as a business owner share we should share our personal journeys. Because people care. They truly do. They want to know the real you. And they want to connect with you.

So what could you share about yourself in the next couple of days that could really help people?

COMMITMENT AND SELF BELIEF
It’s exciting to be back in my home gym tonight after being away for over 2 weeks… and I managed to sort of stick to my diet most days, and get to my workout sessions each day. Because… it’s only 12 and a half weeks until I walk onto a stage in a sparkly bikini, gigantic heels and flex my little muscles! (Which is kind of funny as we head into the shredding stage and my muscles are fading along with my body weight – so there is the chance I won’t be able to compete if it all vanishes into thin air!) But, this is the journey of trying something new, and even if I don’t make the stage this time, it wouldn’t be a failure because it would just be a stepping stone to getting on stage after a second season of training.

I made a commitment back in December 2020 that I would compete in my first ever body sculpting competition and I plan to see it through. Commitment is a wonderful thing. You publicly state you are going to do something and unless something serious gets in the way, you are far more likely to do it than if you keep your goals to yourself!

Four and a half years ago I was training for a half marathon and even after losing my husband just four weeks before the race, with the help of my training buddies who didn’t let me quit, I showed up, competed and did it. It was tough, but I saw it through and I believe it really helped in my healing.

And that’s why it helps to have people on your side. Your coach, people to train with, friends and family who believe in you and support you. And then there is your own self-belief and faith in yourself.

So where are YOU not believing in yourself?
Who could you share your goals and dreams with and make sure they hold you accountable while you work on your own self-belief? We all need a champion to cheer us on, and usually it’s our coach and team mates! So who is on your side while you are working on yourself?!
